Still life with museum specimens

This morning I deposited the Darling Man on a plane headed for the NAMM show in Anaheim (ginormous music trade show), leaving me contentedly alone with my own zillion projects for several days.

It's a three hour drive (each way) to the Denver airport, so any trip to The City is made more efficient by squeezing in errands and sketching time. There's snow in the forecast again, so I didn't get a lot of time to dilly-dally, but I did wrangle a couple of hours in the dioramas at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science. Back to linos tomorrow!

  1. There's just something about your sketches that I just love. I particularly like the armadillo and the gannets. Your sketches always look so confident and I love your sense of line. Mine always seem to be fussy and timid. I gotta work on that. What pencils do you use?

  2. Gabrielle, I totally understand fussy and timid, as that's STRAIGHT where I go when I pick up a brush.

These days I use mostly a 2B, the Lumograph pencils by Staedtler. Once upon a time I was a solid 4B sort of gal, but got tired of the smudginess.
