Linocut in Progress: Self-imposed tedium

The problem with granite-y rocks is that they are a riot of little tiny flecks of color. Of course no one said I had to try to PRINT a riot of little tiny flecks. I brought that on myself.

I don't have a lot of patience for carving noodly bits of lino right now, so I walk away from it about every 20 minutes or so. The last time I walked away I realized that I made a semi-serious mistake in the order in which I've been printing colors, so now I have tedium AND annoyed-with-myself problem solving to face. Yep. This particular step is taking a while.

  1. I will be interested in your explanation of why you are troubled by the color order.
I am seeing in your picture that your linoleum is mounted-since you print by hand it can't be to make it the right height for a printing press. So why do you mount the lino?
    thanks for always answering!

  2. Hi Jane. Has it been 20 minutes since I posted this? Must be, since I'm back at the computer again. ;-)

The mounted lino works best in my registration jig, which is built from 1x2 lumber. (http://brushandbaren.blogspot.com/2008/12/linocut-jig.html)

  3. From your work, I learn. Thank you
Someday, when I create a carving snafu for myself, I'll remember granite.
