Finished!

Whew! Talk about protracted labor! But the pine cone linocut (title still pending) is finally done and drying on the rack. In all 10 colors in reduction, but DANG. I don't know if I'll put myself through that again any time soon.

I'd love to sit and chat a while, but I need to draw a watershed this afternoon and get back to the sagebrush steppe. The PLAN (always with the plans, eh?) is to take a little kick-back time this weekend.

Oh right. I forgot.

Presentation and reading from Susan Tweit's new book "Walking Nature Home," with a few words from the (ahem) illustrator at the Salida Regional Library at 3:00pm tomorrow. I won't be there for the entire event because I am due at the Mother's Bistro reception for my work and for the newly-installed exhibition of 4x4 works by local high school students. Argh! Did I say I was taking time off this weekend?

  3. Really lovely - but I still don't get how you know it's all those colours to achieve this very subtle finish

  5. Thanks, everyone. I'm pleased with the results, but I'm sure I'm preaching to the choir when I say that every attempt at image creation is a learning experience! Always there are a few things that I wish I would have done a little differently...

And golly! I always struggle with subtle... it's not "my best thing." If I actually managed subtle this time, then WOO HOO! It was all worth it.

  8. Lordy...you do such beautiful work! For some reason, I think of this lino as the 'other' one to a pair. I have been thinking of it as High Mountain Detritus.

Anyway, it's absolutely beautiful and makes me a bit 'homesick' for my old cabin. Odd, huh?

  9. Not odd, Beverly! I did plan this one as a companion to the shell piece (High Tide Detritus).. and I have one more in mind at the same scale (already titled "Leaf Litter"), but I think I have to wait until autumn to really get it going. (I want one of those autumn leaf-covered forest floors.) We'll see!

  10. So brave to do a colour reduction with so many colours. And so beautifully detailed. What an accomplished printmaker you are.
